There is a renewed interest in growing native plants which has led to some shortages, as much of the wholesale stock is being diverted towards commercial landscapes. That said, Amsterdam Garden Centre is constantly searching out new suppliers to be able to offer you a more rounded selection, but numbers are still quite limited.

Many feel that indigenous plants are the best solution for local gardens and climate change impacts, as these have been adapted to regional ecosystems for over a millennia. But just because they happen to grow here in British Columbia, doesn’t mean that they are not highly attractive ornamentals and then there’s the benefits to nature, as many provide habitat, pollen, fruit and nectar to both insects and wildlife.
