Nothing says home like having your own Fig tree in the yard and we have chosen the best varieties for coastal British Columbia gardens. Once established, fig trees are completely self-fertile and very productive, so planting your own is going to save you the high cost of buying fresh figs, which are often hard to find anyways. We have a well-rounded selection this year including the dwarf varieties ‘Little Ruby’, ‘Negronne’ and ‘Beer’s Black’ which can be grown in large containers, as well as tried and true standards such as ‘Desert King’, ‘Brown Turkey’ and ‘Lattarula’ (also known as the Italian Honey Fig). For colder regions choose ‘Chicago Hardy’ while fig connoisseurs should consider ‘Violette de Bordeaux’, ‘LSU Purple’ or even ‘Black Spanish’.
Our selections here have been chosen to thrive in our cooler coastal climate, but figs will always prefer as much sun as possible and very sharp soil drainage. Many of the dwarf varieties can also be grown in containers for apartment patios or decks.
