A Handcrafted Amsterdam Christmas

Amsterdam Garden Centre Gift Store

You may have noticed a lot of changes at Amsterdam Garden Centre lately, particularly around Christmas. Lindsay (the owner, along with her husband Jason) has been focused on bringing you better seasonal décor as well as handcrafted items that you can’t find anywhere else. With that in mind she has brought in Deb, our merchandiser and decorator extraordinaire, to create beautiful displays, as well as a dedicated staff of three (Teresa, Candice, and Silvia) whose sole purpose this yuletide is to create festive material out of natural elements. With that in mind, here’s a small sample of what you can expect to find this holiday season, with each item being a unique one-of-a-kind creation.

Christmas Porch Pots

These have become a staple of the Christmas season and while box stores have begun to offer porch pots en masse, they certainly look like they have been hastily produced out of less quality or even dried out boughs. At Amsterdam Garden Centre, these are freshly made on a daily basis, with each one of them being truly unique.

Holiday Centrepieces

When you are hosting the family Christmas dinner, you'll know that appearances are everything, and having that perfect centrepiece is a must. So, whether you need something small with berries or baubles, a larger piece with candles for a formal setting, or even a completely unique centrepiece with custom décor, we have what you are looking for.

Real Artificial Trees

Miniature Christmas Tree Arrangement

Think of these as smaller-scale artificial trees, but entirely made of real plant boughs. They are a bit time-consuming to produce but the results are quite stunning and make a perfect holiday feature, especially for a buffet table or even that stand by the bay window that needs a little dressing up.

Decorated Live Plants

While we offer many live conifers in smaller pots for indoor décor, you should know that we also accessorize these. It’s like shopping for a tiny fully decorated Christmas tree that is a perfect fit for the coffee table, a child’s bedroom, or a nursing home. So, whether it’s a flocked Alberta spruce or a lemon cypress topiary you are after, we have plenty of options.

Fresh Wreaths

When you think about it, the wreath is the first thing family and friends see when them come to visit, and those initial impressions are important. At Amsterdam Garden Centre, our custom wreaths start with a mixed conifer base, to which we add the classic elements of pinecones, variegated boxwood (or what the florists like to call Oregonia), lotus seedpods, winterberry, holly, and evergreen magnolia foliage with its stunning cinnamon brown reverse.

Indoor Holiday Arrangements

Your traditional Christmas flowers like Amaryllis and Poinsettias are nice, but when you add a few tropical plants and a decorative bowl, the overall effect can be breathtaking. When given enough time, we can even create custom indoor planters where you choose the flowers, foliage, and colour.

Bowl and Bird Feeder Arrangements

Anything can become an object of beauty with a little imagination, and that applies to galvanized bird feeders and low plastic bowls. We just add some living greens, pinecones, berries, and redtwig dogwood stems to create a seasonal sculpture that can be appreciated indoors or out.

Upscale Grinch Trees

While Grinch trees have become a family favourite over the years, they don’t have to be relegated to the children’s bedroom. We actually offer upgraded versions with double-beaded garland, greens and juniper berries, pinecones, and a few artificial accents that make them worthy of any living room.

Expect something new and fresh every day at Amsterdam Garden Centre, as most of these festive creations get snapped-up as soon as they hit the floor. Lastly, the owners and staff at Amsterdam Garden Centre want to thank you for your continued patronage and to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
